Getting to RoS[edit | edit source]

The Overthere (Ring of Scale) is the hub zone for this expansion. You can reach it through Frontier Mountains from Empires of Kunark. It leads to Charasis, Sathir's Tomb, and Skyfire Mountains (Ring of Scale).

Skyfire Mountains (Ring of Scale) can be reached through The Overthere (Ring of Scale) or Scorched Woods from Empires of Kunark. Skyfire Mountains (Ring of Scale) leads to Gorowyn, Veeshan's Peak (Ring of Scale), and The Overthere (Ring of Scale).

The guild hall teleportation assistant sells Miniature Worker's Sledge Mallet, which changes the portal to The Overthere (Ring of Scale).

Druids and Wizards can obtain port spells to Skyfire Mountains (Ring of Scale) from Dermun (Teleport Scrolls) in the Combine camp in southwest corner of Skyfire Mountains (Ring of Scale).

The following items will take you to Skyfire Mountains (Ring of Scale):

The Plane of Knowledge teleport stone to The Overthere offers you the choice between going to The Ruins of Kunark zone or the Ring of Scale zone.

Zone connections map[edit | edit source]

Includes Empires of Kunark zones.

Progression[edit | edit source]

Achievement: Adventurer of The Ring of Scale (Group)

Completing the following will grant you access to quests in The Howling Stones, Sathir's Tomb, and Gorowyn:

  • Partisan of The Overthere
  • Partisan of The Skyfire Mountains

Achievement: Veteran of The Ring of Scale (Group)

Completing the following will grant you access to quests in Veeshan's Peak:

  • Adventurer of The Ring of Scale (Group)
  • Partisan of The Howling Stones
  • Partisan of Sathir's Tomb
  • Partisan of Gorowyn

Raid Progression[edit | edit source]

To request raids in Tier 2 and Tier 3, you need to obtain the achievement Seal of Charasis (Raid). This is obtained by completing raids in Kor-Sha Laboratory in Empires of Kunark.

NPCs[edit | edit source]

Kar'Zok[edit | edit source]

For a write up of how to gain immunity, see Essence of the Dragon I.

Kar'Zok sarnak (green sarnak) were first introduced in Empires of Kunark.

The Kar'Zok have a deadly aura, Aura of the Kar'Zok, and the some also have Gust of Atrebe. These will pretty much kill you. However, you can gain immunity to them by completing the quest Methods of Sarnak Destruction in Empires of Kunark. In order to request Methods of Sarnak Destruction, you must first complete most of the Empires of Kunark group progression.

Once you complete Methods of Sarnak Destruction you gain the achievement Essence of the Dragon I (Group), which grants immunity to Gust of Atrebe and Aura of the Kar'Zok.

I can confirm that there are Kar'Zok (green sarnak) in Gorowyn.

There is a single rare NPC in Overthere that is a Kar'Zok. There are Sarnak, but no Kar'zok in Skyfire, Howling Stone, and Sathir's Tomb. There are no Sarnak in Veeshan's Peak.

So plenty of the expansion can be experienced without encountering Kar'Zok. 4 of the 6 zones are free of them, and one has a single NPC in a large zone. So one spot in it to avoid, if the rare is up.

We are looking into auto-granting an equivalent AA to mercenaries that gives them resistance/immunity to the Kar'Zok breath weapon. (It will look for the bit the character gets, so they will only get it if you get it.)

(I am talking about basepop. It sounds like the Sjyfire [Skyfire] mission has Kar'Zok)

It has also been reported there is a Kar'Zok rare (named) in Sathir's Tomb.

If you own the Claws of Veeshan expansion and enable AA Auto-Grant, you will be granted the Essence of the Dragon.

Whether you do the quests to gain the Essence of the Dragon or use the auto-grant, you need to go to your Mercenary AAs and purchase it for zero AAs in order to grant it to your mercenary.

Spells[edit | edit source]

Selected enchanter illusions will drop randomly in Gorowyn and Veeshan's Peak.

Type 3 augmentations[edit | edit source]

Type 3 augmentations that improve your spells and disciplines are sold by the following vendors in The Overthere (Ring of Scale):

Items[edit | edit source]

There are two group tiers and one raid tier of items.

Visible armor[edit | edit source]

The dropped armor parts in Ring of Scale require an upgrade of a previous item.

To make a Tier 1 Ring of Scale armor piece, you need:

  • For group armor, a Tier 2 Empires of Kunark piece. (In addition to farming the piece in Empires of Kunark, you can purchase it for Bathezid Trade Gems (see Alternate Currency below)). For raid armor, a Tier 1 (there are no tier 2 visible raid items) Empires of Kunark raid piece.
  • An NPC merchant bought component sold by Blacksmith Gerta (Smithing Merchant) in Plane of Knowlege:
  • A Tier 1 Ring of Scale mob dropped "Facet". Tier 1 Group facets, called Scale Touched [slot name] Facet, should drop off of zone named mobs. Raid facets, called Scaleborn [slot name] Facet, are found in raid treasure chests. The Facet drops are two slot containers, each one for a specific slot. The container is used up in the combine.

The notes on the facets indicate what is required.

For Tier 2 group armor, you must use a Ring of Scale Tier 1 group armor piece instead of a Tier 2 Empires of Kunark group piece. The Tier 2 Ring of Scale facets are called Scaled [slot name] Facet and drop off named mobs in Tier 2 zones.

Tradeskilled[edit | edit source]

Crestra, Quest NPC in The Overthere (Ring of Scale)

There are tradeskill item tiers as well. The group tradeskilled item tier is between Tier 1 and Tier 2 group gear. The Raid tradeskilled item tier is between a fictional Tier 0 and the real Tier 1 raid gear.

Crestra's Earring[edit | edit source]

Crestra's Empowered Elegant Earring is a new tradeskilled item. It is gained by completing the achievement Ring of Scale > Quests > Crestra's Earring.

This requires completing the following quests from Crestra. Crestra can be found in The Overthere using the Find Window (Ctrl-F):

  • Here or Over There?
  • Details of the Sky
  • Weight of the Sky
  • Gorowyn Wares
  • Measure of the Dead
  • Journey Into Terror
    • Craft Crestra's Empowered Elegant Earring

Power Sources[edit | edit source]

Power Sources can drop from rare (named) mobs.

It's [the drop rate] 30% from any Ring of Scale rare. 5 of the VP rares roll it twice.

Adam "Ngreth" Bell, Senior Designer, EverQuest

Actually is is only T2 rare NPC's (the "dungeons")

Adam "Ngreth" Bell, Senior Designer, EverQuest

Rare (chase)[edit | edit source]

No new chase items added, however the same ones that drop in Empires of Kunark can also drop in Ring of Scale.

Alternate currency[edit | edit source]

Ring of Scale introduces two new alternate currency types:

Lore[edit | edit source]

Now that Norrath's mortal heroes have defeated the Queen of Chardok they must hunt down the Overking, Bathezid. Those that have pieced together the Seal of Charasis will be able to follow the Overking's trail, defeating his allies and any others that stand in their way. The Overking's defeat, however, does not end the troubles in Kunark. The one being behind the manipulation and uplifting of the Sarnak must be stopped. Venture into the depths of Veeshan's Peak to find Talendor and end the risk, perhaps for all time.
