Guild banners are heraldic flags that may be placed anywhere there are twelve or more members of a guild. All members of the guild may take a portal in the guild hall directly to the banner. In addition, some banners offer additional benefits to those near them. Permission to plant, remove, and change banners is set using the Guild Management tool. Banners were first introduced to EverQuest with The Buried Sea expansion.

Banner benefits only effect members of the guild that planted it, characters near it who are not in that guild will be unaffected by it.

Guilds can create a unique Guild Banner from a large selection of symbols and colors. The banner becomes the mark of the guild and when enough guild members are in the same zone (two groups), the guild leaders or officers can plant the banner in the ground.

While a guild banner is planted, members can use the Guild Hall portal to teleport directly to the banner. This allows players to easily catch up with guild mates.

The guild banner can also be upgraded to provide different effects, like regeneration. Upgraded Guild Banners are expendable, but provide an effect to everyone in the guild who is in range of the banner while it is planted.

Guilds can only have one standard up at a time. You can access Guild Banner information through a tab in the Guild Window and banners will be sold in the Plane of Knowledge.

Update Message - February 13, 2007

Placing

Permission to plant, remove, and change banners is set using the Guild Management tool.

Placing a banner requires 12 guildmates to be in the same zone within 150 distance units from the player planting the banner. If they're too far away, they will not be able to place the banner.

— Maddoc, Assistant Lead Designer

Duration

Once a Standard of Honor banner is planted, it will last indefinitely if there is at least one guild member in the zone. Otherwise it will disappear one hour after all guild members leave the zone. The banner can also be removed via a button control in the guild management window if you have the proper permission.

All other banners last 60 minutes.

Creating banners

The "Standard of Honor" banner is always available and confers no benefits other than appearance and granting the ability for guild members to take the guild portal to it. It requires no materials to use.

The "Banner Material Kit" and "Banner Dye Kit" are the items that are used to create a banner and place it in the world.

When you open the guild window and go to the "Banners" Tab, you should see a list box with a single entry that says "Standard of Honor". Just beneath that list box, you'll see a checkbox that says "Show All", select it.

This will populate the list box with a bunch of banners that are going to be greyed out (which means you don't have the components to create them). Just beneath the checkbox you checked is the description window, which will give you a brief description of the banner's effect, as well as the items needed to create that banner, which you may then purchase those items from the two guild banner vendors in Plane of Knowledge.

The "Banner Exchange Insignia" are used to edit the settings (looks) if your banner. The more you change the looks of your banner, the more it's going to cost you by requiring a higher tier of exchange insignia.

— Maddoc, Assistant Lead Designer

In order to plant a banner besides the "Standard of Honor" requires one (per creation) Guild Banner Materials, purchased from Rhondda the Flagger (Guild Banners) in The Plane of Knowledge. Each Guild Banner Materials costs 10,000 platinum pieces.

Superior Standards

The June 13, 2023 Test Update introduced Superior Standards. These may change before going live and also can change after going live.

New "Superior Standards" are available as an option for guild banners. These standards will only function in instances of zones within expansions that have been released for at least six months. These banners offer enhanced buffs to have an "easy" option for raids. We will evaluate these buffs and see if they need further adjusting. These will also function on progression servers with a one-month delay (except Vaniki).
