Faction in EverQuest is a measure of how much a group of mobs or NPCs like or hate you.

Various mobs and NPCs belong to faction groups. Some belong to multiple faction groups.

Every player starts out with various levels of like or dislike with every faction group. They may be different depending on your race and/or class. Killing mobs and completing quests can change faction levels.

When you Consider (/con) NPCs and mobs you will get a message. The message relays two things. The first is the NPCs attitude toward you. The second is how tough the NPC is compared to you.

Links[edit | edit source]

Levels[edit | edit source]

Attitude (from worst to best):

ready to attack, threateningly, dubious, apprehensive, indifferent, amiably, kindly, warmly, ally

NPCs will attack you on sight if "ready to attack" and "threateningly". They will not attack but will refuse to trade if "dubious".

Good faction is often required to purchase items and obtain quests.

Faction Window[edit | edit source]

With the release of The Burning Lands expansion, EQ has added a Faction Window. You do not need to own The Burning Lands to use the faction window, it is a feature available to everyone on all servers.

What is the Faction Window?

The Faction Window will display various factions from the game as well as your current standing, the max standing that you can have and the minimum standing that you can have with those factions. This window will not work if you are shrouded.
How do I open the window?
There are two ways to open the window:

  • /faction
  • Follow the EQ menus, EQ-> Character->Faction Standings

What features exist?

  • The window updates with your information, so if you have it open the faction status will update with your changes.
  • Faction messages (such as those seen when killing or /con-ing an NPC ), will create a link that will open and select the designated faction.
  • The window has tooltips that will tell you various information:
    • If you hover over the faction name it will tell you your current reaction (what an NPC on this faction will /con to you) as well how many points you need for the next reaction.
    • Hovering over the standing progress bar will display your current standing (how much you have done to help or hurt this group) as well as the minimum and maximum possible standing with the group.
  • The window supports search functionality:
    • Typing any text into the search bar and hitting 'Search' or the ENTER key will search the window.
    • Clearing the search bar and hitting 'Search' or the ENTER key will return the window to the previous state.
    • If you click on a category button on the left of the window, it will open that categories factions and turn off your search.
    • If you click on a faction message that links to the window, that will also turn off your search.
    • You can type /faction FACTION_NAME and the window will open and search for the FACTION_NAME
  • The window supports /outputfile:
    • Type /outputfile faction
    • You will generate a file that contains the faction ID, the faction name, your current standing value, and how many points you need to get max standing.
    • You can also type /outputfile faction FILE_NAME and generate a the same file but with the name you choose.

Faction numbers[edit | edit source]

  • Ally: 1100 to 1250
  • Warmly: 750 to 1099
  • Kindly: 500 to 749
  • Amiable: 100 to 499
  • Indifferent: 0 to 99
  • Apprehensive: -100 to -1
  • Dubious: -500 to -101
  • Threateningly: -750 to -501
  • Ready to Attack: -3000 to -751

Heroic Charisma[edit | edit source]

Daybreak explained how Heroic Charisma affects faction:

The bonuses of heroic charisma on faction gains have to be set 'per faction' so the vast majority of factions are not set up to use this scaling.

The scaling on Castle Rulnavis and Castle Tamrel gains are: for every 50 points of heroic charisma you have you get 20% more gains up to 100% at 500 points of heroic charisma. Rather than truncating gains (because the minimum faction adjustment is 1 point) a decimal remainder causes the system to do a random roll to determine whether or not an extra point is added.

The interval on 'most but not all' other factions that use heroic charisma for modification are for every 100 points you get a 20% bonus up to 100% at 1000.

Additionally, 'most but not all' of the other factions that use heroic charisma have a 'reaction bonus' whereby you get 20 more points to your reaction to that faction for every 100 heroic charisma up to a maximum of 100 bonus reaction points for 1000 points of heroic charisma.

Most of the factions that make use of heroic charisma are from SoF and SoD.

For reference, the following factions do make use of heroic charisma to scale your gains/losses:

Castle Rulnavis

Castle Tamrel

The Borrowers

Bertoxxulous' Chosen

Camp Valor

Ladies of the Light

Loyalists of Kerafyrm

Crusaders of Veeshan
