The Dark Elves of Neriak are the very essence of evil and are roundly hated and feared by most all other races on Norrath. They were created long ago by their dark god Innoruuk who, jealous of the Elves of Tunare and all they had achieved in their ancient empire, kidnapped the then royal family and tortured them mercilessly – turning them eventually to hate. The progeny of these first Dark Elves now live in their underground city of Neriak, nestled deep within the Nektulos Forest.

The Dark Elves are largely aggressive to all other races, but permit the presence of Ogres and Trolls in their city foreign quarters as they prove useful tools in their plans of domination. Any Dark Elf travelling outside the walls of Neriak may be considered a threat – whilst acting under a guise of cooperation, it's often a ruse employed by the Dark Elves to use their companions to further their own ends.

As a people the Dark Elves are particularly intelligent, and so excel as Enchanters, Magicians, Necromancers and Wizards. The Necromancers form the ruling elite of Neriak in their third gate of the city, whereas the other arcane disciplines have formed a lower middle class in the merchant's district. Their intellect also benefits the more battle-minded of their race, particularly the Shadow Knights who boast superior mana pools to those of other races.

Though not particularly strong, Dark Elves can also become Warriors and Rogues – they win their battles through deft bladework and agility in defence. The more theosophic of the Dark Elves make excellent Clerics – though it may be considered a contradiction that such a hate-filled race may seek to heal others, they use their perverted gifted magic to further the cause of Innoruuk.

Living underground for the majority of their lives, Dark Elves are particularly good at hiding, and are also gifted with ultravision of sight which enables them to see objects in low-light environments as if the area were fully lit.
