Zones

The dungeons for Ring of Scale are Charasis, Sathir's Tomb, Gorowyn, and Veeshan's Peak. Those zones are meant mostly for characters at or near level 110. The overland zones will be easier and should be accessible by characters from 106 and up.

Getting to RoS

The Overthere is the hub zone for this expansion. You can reach it through Frontier Mountains from Empires of Kunark. It leads to Charasis, Sathir's Tomb, and Skyfire Mountains.

Skyfire Mountains can be reached through The Overthere or Scorched Woods from Empires of Kunark. Skyfire Mountains leads to Gorowyn, Veeshan's Peak, and The Overthere.

It is believed but not confirmed that guild portals will offer to take you to The Overthere.

The following items will take you to Skyfire Mountains:

  • Gorowyn Express Beacon - Personal teleport to Skyfire, next to Gorowyn. Obtained with purchase of the Collector's or Premium Edition.
  • Gorowyn Express Lantern - Guild teleport to Skyfire, next to Gorowyn. Obtained with purchase of the Premium Edition.

Includes Empires of Kunark zones.

Progression

Raid Progression

Before you can raid in Ring of Scale, you need to obtain the achievement Seal of Charasis (Raid). This is obtained by completing raids in Kor-Sha Laboratory in Empires of Kunark.

NPCs

Kar'Zok

For a write up of how to gain immunity, see: Empires of Kunark progression > Required for Kar'Zok immunity

Kar'Zok sarnak (green sarnak) were first introduced in Empires of Kunark.

The Kar'Zok have a deadly aura, Aura of the Kar'Zok, and the some also have Gust of Atrebe. These will pretty much kill you. However, you can gain immunity to them by completing the quest Methods of Sarnak Destruction in Empires of Kunark. In order to request Methods of Sarnak Destruction, you must first complete most of the Empires of Kunark group progression.

Once you complete Methods of Sarnak Destruction you gain the achievement Essence of the Dragon I (Group), which grants immunity to Gust of Atrebe and Aura of the Kar'Zok.

I can confirm that there are Kar'Zok (green sarnak) in Gorowyn.

There is a single rare NPC in Overthere that is a Kar'Zok. There are Sarnak, but no Kar'zok in Skyfire, Howling Stone, and Sathir's Tomb. There are no Sarnak in Veeshan's Peak.

So plenty of the expansion can be experienced without encountering Kar'Zok. 4 of the 6 zones are free of them, and one has a single NPC in a large zone. So one spot in it to avoid, if the rare is up.

We are looking into auto-granting an equivalent AA to mercenaries that gives them resistance/immunity to the Kar'Zok breath weapon. (It will look for the bit the character gets, so they will only get it if you get it.)

(I am talking about basepop. It sounds like the Sjyfire [Skyfire] mission has Kar'Zok)

Adam "Ngreth" Bell, Senior Designer, EverQuest

It has also been reported there is a Kar'Zok rare (named) in Sathir's Tomb.

Spells

Enchanter illusions will drop randomly in Gorowyn and Veeshan's Peak.

Items

There are two group tiers and one raid tier of items.

Visible armor

The dropped armor parts in Ring of Scale require an upgrade of a previous item.

To make a Tier 1 Ring of Scale armor piece, you need:

  • A Tier 2 Empires of Kunark piece.
  • An NPC merchant bought component (Combine Draconic Scale Subsumption for group and Combine Draconic Scale Transmogrificant for raid)
  • A Tier 1 Ring of Scale mob dropped "Facet". Group facets should drop off of zone named mobs. Raid facets should be found in raid treasure chests. The Facet drops are two slot containers, each one for a specific slot. The container is used up in the combine.

The notes on the facets indicate what is required.

For Tier 2 group armor, you must use a Ring of Scale Tier 1 group armor piece instead of a Tier 2 Empires of Kunark group piece. The Tier 2 Ring of Scale facets are called Scaled [slot name] Facet and drop off named mobs in Tier 2 zones.

Tradeskilled

There are tradeskill item tiers as well. The group tradeskilled item tier is between Tier 1 and Tier 2 group gear. The Raid tradeskilled item tier is between a fictional Tier 0 and the real Tier 1 raid gear.

Lore

Now that Norrath's mortal heroes have defeated the Queen of Chardok they must hunt down the Overking, Bathezid. Those that have pieced together the Seal of Charasis will be able to follow the Overking's trail, defeating his allies and any others that stand in their way. The Overking's defeat, however, does not end the troubles in Kunark. The one being behind the manipulation and uplifting of the Sarnak must be stopped. Venture into the depths of Veeshan's Peak to find Talendor and end the risk, perhaps for all time.
