=== Hidden augmentation issues ===
Because of the hidden augmentation, you may get a message when trying to sell back gear to NPC vendors, "This item contains an augment that I can't accept." This can also happen when trying to make a combine (e.g. upgrade visible armor).  To resolve it, equip the piece, remove your power source, then unequip the piece.

== A TL;DR Guide to Power Sources on Live Servers ==

* From level 1 to 74, there are no power sources available.
* Starting at 75 you can use the power sources from Buried Sea, available via quest currency or crafting.  However, these add a relatively small amount of stats and you won't be this level for very long.  They were worth it when min-maxing at that level (and are still worth it on TLP servers at TBS expansion), but the time and effort of obtaining them is not worth it when you're just passing through those levels.
* At 98 you can use Xorbb's Caged Hatred from RoF.  It's pretty nice if you happen to have one, but it's rare for it to still be available in bazaar and it's not worth specifically camping, so you can ignore this too.
* At 104 some decent power sources become available in TDS.  (See below for a list.)  As of NoS, these are still often available at reasonable prices in bazaar and are worth picking up if they aren't expensive.  '''From this point on, you will generally always want to be using a power source whenever doing challenging content.'''
* At 109 the RoS power sources become available.  They are direct upgrades to the TDS power sources.  They should be widely available in bazaar and are worth using.
* At 114 the ToV power sources become available.  Again there are four of them, and they are direct upgrades to the RoS versions.
* At 119 the ToL power sources become available.  Again there are four of them, and they are direct upgrades to the ToV versions.

== Droppable ==
Power sources were originally purchased from vendors using special currency or crafted, but those options don't exist in modern (live) content.  For several expansions now, all new power sources have been tradeable drops from rares.

How Power Sources Work[edit | edit source]

Each Power Source (also known as Energeian orb) is actually an augmentation behind the scenes, which fits snugly into those hidden type 1 and type 2 slots on Energeian and other gear.

As an example, take this aug which is tradeskilled: Murky Energeian Earth Orb MAGIC ITEM Slot: POWER SOURCE Power: 1000000/1000000 Required level of 50. WT: 0.5 Size: TINY Class: ALL Race: ALL

Behind the scenes, you gain an aug called Earth when you equip it - at full power, the stats are:

  • Earth
    • MAGIC ITEM AUGMENTATION
    • Slot: HEAD FACE EAR NECK SHOULDERS ARMS BACK WRIST RANGE HANDS PRIMARY SECONDARY FINGER CHEST LEGS FEET WAIST
    • AC: 5
    • STR: +15 DEX: -15 STA: +15 CHA: +5 AGI: -15
    • HP: +25 MANA: +25 ENDUR: +25
    • SV DISEASE: +25
    • WT: 0.0 Size: TINY
    • Class: ALL
    • Race: ALL

So, if you equip a murky earth orb and are wearing praetorian armor (purity: 50) you'll get half those stats applied to each item - 12 HPs, 2 AC etc. If you then upgrade to raid armor (purity: 75) with the same orb equipped, you'll get 75% of the stats applied to each item - 18 HPs, 3 AC etc.

Different level orbs correspond to different augs behind the scenes, with greater stats the better the orb.

Hidden augmentation issues[edit | edit source]

Because of the hidden augmentation, you may get a message when trying to sell back gear to NPC vendors, "This item contains an augment that I can't accept." This can also happen when trying to make a combine (e.g. upgrade visible armor). To resolve it, equip the piece, remove your power source, then unequip the piece.

A TL;DR Guide to Power Sources on Live Servers[edit | edit source]

  • From level 1 to 74, there are no power sources available.
  • Starting at 75 you can use the power sources from Buried Sea, available via quest currency or crafting. However, these add a relatively small amount of stats and you won't be this level for very long. They were worth it when min-maxing at that level (and are still worth it on TLP servers at TBS expansion), but the time and effort of obtaining them is not worth it when you're just passing through those levels.
  • At 98 you can use Xorbb's Caged Hatred from RoF. It's pretty nice if you happen to have one, but it's rare for it to still be available in bazaar and it's not worth specifically camping, so you can ignore this too.
  • At 104 some decent power sources become available in TDS. (See below for a list.) As of NoS, these are still often available at reasonable prices in bazaar and are worth picking up if they aren't expensive. From this point on, you will generally always want to be using a power source whenever doing challenging content.
  • At 109 the RoS power sources become available. They are direct upgrades to the TDS power sources. They should be widely available in bazaar and are worth using.
  • At 114 the ToV power sources become available. Again there are four of them, and they are direct upgrades to the RoS versions.
  • At 119 the ToL power sources become available. Again there are four of them, and they are direct upgrades to the ToV versions.

Droppable[edit | edit source]

Power sources were originally purchased from vendors using special currency or crafted, but those options don't exist in modern (live) content. For several expansions now, all new power sources have been tradeable drops from rares.

Notes:

  • Misty Orbs are available at amiable (12 regular missions?) faction while Translucent are available at ally (48 regular missions) faction.
  • Misty Orbs can be sold back to the vendor for 2 Orux and Translucent for 3 (am unsure if you can sell back a completely empty orb).
  • A complete set of Energeian armor/weapons is 10 items, so multiple the above values by 10 to get the overall modifier.
  • The above stats are recorded for an item with 50 purity. Items with less purity will have less stats and vice-versa. All ally armor seem to have 50 purity while amiable armor has 45.
  • The power source does drain faster the more equipment you have. With just one piece it is around 2/sec, with 10 it is 25 or so.
  • All of the stun procs cap at level 65/70.
  • Procs will vary (some of them at least) when using two handed weapons.

Misty Orbs[edit | edit source]

Misty Orbs are available for 15 Orux in Katta Castrum once you reach amiable faction. They have a required level of 70. The following stats are for an item with 50 Purity. Items with less purity will have appropriately less stats.

Player made Power Sources[edit | edit source]

Player made Sealed Orbs become NO TRADE once they are opened for use.

Unlocking them[edit | edit source]

Player made Power Sources used to be locked until a character completed certain raids. With the March 12, 2014 patch, they were opened to everyone if Underfoot was launched on the server. Player made Power Sources can not be used until they are unlocked, which also makes them NO TRADE.

Progression servers[edit | edit source]

If a server has not yet launched the Underfoot expansion, to unlock them the character must complete the Solteris raids (all seven) or a number of Secrets of Faydwer and/or Seeds of Destruction raids.

Any Seeds of Destruction Raid (Queen Malarian, Blackburrow, Baghresh, Kurns Tower / FoScale / Kurns Library, Crystalline Tyrannont / Rallos Returns / Zek Bros, Korafax (any), Discord Tower (any))

Any instanced Secrets of Faydwer (Mining Behemoth / Power Station / Spindlecrank, Soulbleeder, Meldrath Mansion (any), Crystallos (any))

From the February 11, 2009 patch message: "Tradeskilled Pure Powersources can now be unlocked with many of the flagging SoF and SoD raids. Past kills will work to unlock these items."

NOTE: It may have been changed so that you only need to have done ONE of any of the above raids. Confirmation is needed.
