Torment of Velious (ToV) is EverQuest's 26th expansion. It was announced on October 16, 2019. Pre-orders and Beta began on October 23, 2019. It was released on December 18, 2019.

Getting to ToV[edit | edit source]

The guild hall teleportation assistant sells Brilliant Frigid Gemstone for ~420pp, which changes the portal to The Eastern Wastes (Torment of Velious).

The following items will take you to Crystal Caverns (Torment of Velious):

  • Froststone Crystal Resonator - Personal teleport device. Obtained with purchase of the Collector's, Premium Edition, or Family & Friends Edition.
  • Froststone Crystal Echo - House or Guild Hall teleport device. Obtained with purchase of the Premium Edition or Family & Friends Edition.

In The Northern Desert of Ro zone, Belinda (Griffon Handler) offers you a griffon ride to The Eastern Wastes (Torment of Velious). An easy way to The Northern Desert of Ro is to say, "North Ro", to Magus Alaria (Magus) in the Guild Lobby.

Druids and Wizards have ports to The Great Divide (Torment of Velious). Self only at level 113, group and others at level 114. Druids and Wizards can buy the spells from Aurelia Portrowel (Teleport Scrolls) in The Great Divide (Torment of Velious) (near the The Eastern Wastes (Torment of Velious) zone line). Wizards can also buy the spells from Excellent Raiton Evasion (Wizard and Magician Spells) in The Eastern Wastes (Torment of Velious).

The Plane of Knowledge teleport stone to The Great Divide offers you the choice between going to The Scars of Velious zone or the Torment of Velious zone.

Progression[edit | edit source]

Raid Progression[edit | edit source]

There are three tiers of raids, and each tier will open one month per tier after the expansions launches. So, tier 1 will become accessible one month after the expansion launches. Tier 2 two months and tier 3 three months after the expansion opens. No flags, progression, or collectables needed to raid any tier.

Rank I

Rank I spells can be purchased from NPC merchants in The Eastern Wastes (Torment of Velious).

Druid teleportation spells must be purchased in The Great Divide (Torment of Velious). See Getting to ToV above.


Rank II

Rank II spells are gotten by clicking "Engraved Velium Rune" drops from named mobs or randomly off of trash mobs.

Rank III

Rank III spells are gotten from clicking "Kromrif Etching" gotten from raid chests in ToV raids. As of the January, 20, 2021 game update, Rank III spells may be purchased from Hrenvy Bloodyhand (Raid Merchant) in The Eastern Wastes (Torment of Velious) with Warlord's Symbols. In order to purchase the spells, "You will need all tier 1 and tier 2 raids for the first three level [Level 111, 112, and 113 spells], and tier 3 for the last two levels [Level 114 and 115 spells]".

Visible armor[edit | edit source]

Combine the proper Refined Velium along with your class specific emblem inside the Faded Armor container. The Refined Velium can be purchased from Sandrice Gemheart (Merchant) in Crystal Caverns (Torment of Velious). The emblems are purchased from vendors at the small bank in Plane of Knowledge (Plate/Chain classes at Blacksmith Gerta (Smithing Merchant), Silk/Leather classes at Tailor Kujen (Tailoring Merchant), among other places.

Group

ToV has three tiers of group armor.

Raid

ToV has two tiers of raid armor.

  • Tier 1: Ice Woven [slot name]
Tier 1 armor is made from a drop from raid chests Faded Ice Woven [slot name] Armor. The drop is a two slot container. You place an emblem for your class along with Ice Woven Refined Velium to create the piece. Ice Woven Refined Velium is purchased from Sandrice Gemheart (Merchant) in Crystal Caverns (Torment of Velious), cost 36,750 platinum. The emblems are purchased from vendors at the small bank in Plane of Knowledge (see above).

Tradeskilled[edit | edit source]

Power Sources[edit | edit source]

Torment of Velious contains recipes for four tradeskilled power sources, created using Spell Research. You must be doing or have completed the quest Strategic Results (Allakhazam, EQ Resource) (one of the Earring of Rallos Zek quests) in order to create them.

Chase[edit | edit source]

Extremely rare raid level items have a chance to drop off of mobs.

Luminous Restless Ice[edit | edit source]

The Broken Mirror introduced a special item, the Eyes of Life and Decay. The Eyes of Life and Decay boost your damaging and healing abilities. This is obtained by completing raid achievements. They start out only doing so by 1% but gain power as you complete more raid achievements.

However, the Eyes of Life and Decay only work on abilities up to level 110.

Torment of Velious introduces a new item, Luminous Restless Ice. Luminous Restless Ice has the Focus Effect: Restless Focus which improves damaging and healing abilities up to level 120. It is a type 3 augmentation. In addition, the Eyes of Life and Decay could only be obtained and improved by difficult to complete raid achievements. However, Luminous Restless Ice is obtained by completing solo/group quest achievements. It is still necessary to compete raids and raid achievements to maximize its power.

  • Completing Hero of Eastern Wastes grants you Luminous Restless Ice with Focus Effect: Restless Focus I (1% bonus to damaging and healing abilities, level 111+ required)
  • Completing Hero of The Great Divide unlocks Luminous Restless Ice with Restless Focus II (3% bonus to damaging and healing abilities, level 112+ required)
  • Completing Hero of Velketor's Labyrinth unlocks Luminous Restless Ice with Restless Focus III (5% bonus to damaging and healing abilities, level 113+ required)
  • Completing Hero of Kael Drakkel unlocks Luminous Restless Ice with Restless Focus IV (7% bonus to damaging and healing abilities, level 114+ required)
  • Completing Conqueror of Torment of Velious (defeat all of the raids) unlocks Luminous Restless Ice with Restless Focus V (9% bonus to damaging and healing abilities, level 115+ required)
  • Completing Vanquisher of Torment of Velious (get all of the raid achievements) unlocks Luminous Restless Ice with Restless Focus VI (10% bonus to damaging and healing abilities, level 115+ required)

Alternate currency[edit | edit source]

Torment of Velious introduces two new alternate currency types:

  • Froststone Ducat - Earned by doing Torment of Veliouis missions. Used to purchase group gear.
  • Warlord's Symbol - Earned by completing Torment of Velious raids. Used to purchase raid gear.

Lore[edit | edit source]

A new threat faces all and many creatures that have been familiar to Norrathians have been strangely transformed by living ice.

The lands and denizens of the continent of Velious are suffering. The icy landscape has seemingly come to life and is flowing oddly upward toward the sky. This restless ice is infecting and animating the inhabitants it touches, turning them into zombie-like beings with a strange icy infection that appears alive in its own way – moving and shifting over their bodies. What has caused this strange turn? And what could it mean? All adventurers are called upon to unravel the chilling mysteries that are the Torment of Velious.
