Alternate currency

EQ has a number of alternate currencies besides the normal Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum coins in the game.

Radiant Crystals and Ebon Crystals

Radiant and Ebon Crystals are part of the Dragons of Norrath expansion and are only earned and spent in that expansion. They may be traded.

Radiant Crystals are earned by doing quests for Norrath's Keepers, the good faction in DoN. Ebon Crystals are earned by doing quests for the Dark Reign, the evil faction in DoN.

Only quests obtained in the Lavastorm Mountains can earn them and only there can you spend them. Two merchants in Lavastorm will accept them in exchange for items. Tatsujiro the Serene sells items for Radiant Crystals and Xeib Darkskies sells items for Ebon Crystals.

McKenzie's Special Brew

McKenzie's Special Brew is a currency with you can use to buy items from Old Man McKenzie. Group missions earn you 1 Brew and raid missions 2 Brew.

The items in the chests can also be turned in to Old Man McKenzie for 1 McKenzie's Special Brew for group items, 3 Brew for raid items, if you do not wish to keep them.

• A listing of the gear Old Man McKenzie will sell you. This is also the loot that the chests may contain.

Loyalty Tokens (Crowns)

• EQ Knowledge Base - Loyalists of EverQuest

Loyalty Tokens (a/k/a Crowns) were added to the game on September 8, 2010. They are not tradeable.

From the September 8, 2010 patch message:

“

Loyalists of EverQuest is a program for our loyal EverQuest customers. For simply continuing to subscribe to our game you will gain a special currency (crowns) every week that can be spent on items to improve your game play. There is no additional charge for the items you find on this vendor. You will not need to spend station cash, nor buy Legends of Norrath packs to gain these items. Simply continue to play our game. Seek out Alerynril the Loyal in Plane of Knowledge for the current loyalty items. The amount of crowns you gain each week will increase for every month that you have a continued subscription to EverQuest. This increase in points per week caps out after 12 months. This is the "Velocity" you see on the welcome screen. The specific method of subscription is not important, as long as you continue to stay subscribed each month. Additionally, long term subscribers will gain an initial bonus of crowns, depending upon the duration of their subscription. For each month your subscription lapses, you will lose three months of velocity. NOTE: Loyalty points are shared across all your characters on all servers. Choose which character gets the rewards carefully!

[Crown earning rate is] 10 per week per month subscribed, capped at 12 months. so if you have been subscribed at least 1 year, you get 120 per week. We do expect there to be a cap on the amount that can be accumulated as well because we want people to log in and play, not just hold an account for a year. We figure it is healthier overall for the game if people come in and play.

”

Maximum amount cap

There are limitations to how many Crowns you can save up at once through the Loyalists system. Once your account's cap is reached, your account will not be able to earn more crowns through the loyalty system until you've spent some.

• Accounts with Gold membership: Velocity caps at 120 and Crowns cap at 5760.
• Accounts with Silver membership: Velocity caps at 60 and Crowns cap at 2880. Please note that for Silver accounts which have downgraded from Gold Membership, Velocity will be reduced to meet the Silver-level cap. Any Crowns which exceed the Silver-level cap will not be lost, although you may not gain more Crowns until you have dropped below the Crown cap for Silver membership.
• Accounts with Free membership: Velocity caps at 30 and Crowns cap at 1440.

Even when an account's Crowns are capped as far as the Loyalists system is concerned, however, you may still be able to gain additional crowns via in-game means. Some polls and special quests or events may offer loyalty points as a reward. There may also be opportunities on the Test server to gain crowns through participation in testing new content.

Spending crowns

There are two vendors who sell items for Loyalty Tokens:

• Plane of Knowledge - Alerynril the Loyal [Loyalists of Everquest]
• Sunrise Hills (Player housing zones) - Pagus Nonad [New Tanaan Tax Authority]

Mark of Valor

Mark of Valor is obtained by completing Heroic Adventures. They can be used to purchase mercenary gear, Rank II spells and group level player gear.

Medals of Heroism

Medals of Heroism are awarded to each member of a tier 1 raid upon completion. They are used to purchase Rank III spells and raid level player gear. Completing certain raids unlocks different gear. Requisitioner Sheon (Raid Merchant, Rank III Spells) in Ethernere Tainted West Karana sells the items.

Fists of Bayle

Fists of Bayle are awarded to each member of a tier 2 raid upon completion. They are used to purchase tier 2 raid level player gear. Requisitioner Chash (Raid Merchant Tier 2) in Ethernere Tainted West Karana sells the items.

Commemorative Coin

Main article: Anniversary > Commemorative Coins

Commemorative Coin is a currency introduced for completing Anniversary quests, beginning with the 15th anniversary quests. Commemorative coins can purchase items from a jubilant merchant (Special Celebratory Goods) in the Plane of Knowledge.

Nobles

Nobles are an alternate currency type added in the game on September 17, 2014. The purpose of Nobles is to enable large money transactions, where the Platinum piece is not enough. They're intended primarily as a way for players to transfer larger amounts of money than the system can currently allow otherwise.

They cost 110,245 platinum to buy and sell back to a merchant for 100,000 platinum. Nobles stack up to 20. They are sold by at least one guard near every starting city's banker, in the Plane of Knowledge, in the Bazaar and Barter sections of the Bazaar zone, and in gypsy and adventurer camps. All NPCs should be Findable (Ctrl-F) and will have the title "Noble Exchange".

The Darkened Sea

The Darkened Sea introduces two new alternate currency types.

Arx Energy Crystal

Arx Energy Crystals are earned by completing raids. Items purchased from Researcher Orbiana (Raid Merchant) in Katta Castrum: Deluge.

Pieces of Eight

Piece of Eight is obtained by completing The Darkened Sea Heroic Adventures. Items purchased from:

Tier 1 - Yllethil Starsun (Group Merchant) in Tempest Temple.

Tier 2 - Cha`nya Athendi (Group Merchant) in Caverns of Endless Song.

Tier 3 - Agrimensor Crescentia (Group Merchant) in Degmar, the Lost Castle.

Mercenary Gear Merchant - a merchant in Arx Mentis.

The Broken Mirror

The Broken Mirror introduces two new alternate currency types.

Remnant of Tranquility

Remnant of Tranquility is earned by completing The Broken Mirror quests and Heroic Adventures. It is used to purchase group gear and augmentations. Items are purchased from merchants next to Quellious in the Plane of Tranquility and merchants near the center of the Plane of Health.

Bifurcated Coin

Bifurcated Coin is earned from completing raids. Items are purchased from Nelirid Wittma (Raid Outfitter) next to Quellious in the Plane of Tranquility, and from Lyppsenfon Qeyton (Raid Outfitter), near the center of the Plane of Health.
